AE Modular’s WAVETABLES – A High-Quality Digital Wavetables OSC
AE Modular’s WAVETABLES
The WAVETABLES module is a digital oscillator that is based on wavetables, a technique that becomes popular first with the famous PPG synthesizer. Here, a huge number of digital waveforms can be “scanned”, resulting in a morphing between a variety of interesting spectral structures.
WAVETABLES Features
- 7 different wavetables
- Crossfading between individual waveforms in each table
- Coarse and fine frequency control
- Frequency modulation with CV control
- Uni- and bipolar CV control of FM and wave sweeping
- Detune/spread to fatten the sound by adding a second oscillator with detuning up to one octave
WAVETABLES module was developed by Paula Maddox from DOVE audio; known by the excellent synthesizers MODAL 002, MODAL 008 and we are proud and happy that Paula offered to contribute this excellent work for the AE modular product line.
The module offers seven different table sets, in each of them, an interesting spectral move happens via the WAVE knob. Of course, this can be modulated by an external CV too. To “fatten” the sound, the DETUNE/SPREAD knob adds a second oscillator with a variable detune up to one octave.
Pitch and wave modulation have an attenuator knob to set the amount of modulation, plus a switch to choose between unipolar (modulation CV is added to the current value) or bipolar (modulation swings above and below the current value).
The table position of the currently played waveform has a visual representation by an LED that changes it’s color in the rainbow spectrum. For more information take a look at the AeManual/WAVETABLES.

Available now – Cable Management Kit for AE MODULAR
AE Modular Bread Board Cable Holders by Flavorwave
As reported earlier AE Modular Bread Board Cable Holders by Flavorwave was planned to be ready for order and shipment in May 2021. The cable management kit it is designed for one row of an AE rack. With the Wings used in the studio, and the tabs for travel. The main reason for the difference is that the wings stick off the rack about two inches and could break during travel, but the tabs would not.
The cable hanger “wings” attach in various ways to your AE Modular rack case via the M5 and M3 screw holes. ( see diagram) The slanted grooves keep your bread board cables in reach, but organized and out of your way. The larger groove can accommodate 3.5mm audio or patch cables or your midi cables.
The “Patch Tabs” and Velcro strap help keep your patches safe when traveling, from accidental unplugs, or curious studio cats. The velcro strap runs the length of the case over the connections, providing enough protection without providing pressure that could damage the connections or cables.
Kit Includes
- One Cable Wing (left or right facing)
- One Patch Tab
- One Velcro Strap
- Necessary screws to attach them
- Flavorwave Sticker
These kits are made by myself at a community workshop. Not a giant factory, please be patient if something is sold out. They are laser-cut acrylic.

AE Modular Bread Board Cable Holders by Flavorwave in May 2021
Coming this May…
This cable management is for my loose AE Modular cables that are sitting beside your racks in a box. Check it out on Flavorwave’s Online Shop. Flavorwave’s first product is a cable management kit for the Tangible Waves AE Modular Synth format. It includes a breadboard cable hanger, and “Patch Tabs” that help hold cable patches in place.
Essentially it is designed for one row of an AE rack. With the Wings used in studio, and the tabs for travel. The main reason for the difference is that the wings stick off the rack about two inches and could break during travel, but the tabs would not.
