Shared System Tutorials – Microsound

In part 8 we used the Morphagene to create a loop recording with the Erbe-Verb. In this part we’re going to explore that recording some more, trying to uncover the secret microworld hiding in those sounds. I’ll also explore some grand piano samples from mr. Lexer, designer of the Arbhar algorithm.

Morphagene may feel like it’s very hard to control, but it’s actually quite easy once you get the hang of it. It’s designed to make noise and to play live, especially with sounds that are recorded on the spot. It’s not a conventional sampler or looper, it’s clearly inspired by the Musique Concrete from the 1950s where it was great fun to chop, mangle, reverse and reassemble sounds with magnetic tape. It is still great fun!
