Playing with Modular Limitations

The beginning modular enthusiast usually does not realize that a modular is usually monophonic so you can create one voice and you’ll need to play it like a saxophone or other lead instrument. But as with the saxophone, it has a lot of different timbres and expressions. Here’s where the modular synth excels. In this video, I’ll try to create a dance track with the DPO, a two-voice complex oscillator. So this basically adds up to a kick and a bass. Or a kick and a lead.

But not all at once, so you’ll need to improvise a bit. I’ve shared some tricks and tips after I tried to jam with the Shared System but it will translate to many other systems too. I hope you’ll find them useful!
