It took me a while to figure out the Melotus Versio, which was recently introduced by Noise Engineering as a granular texturizer. The name refers to both a badger (animal) and a cactus. It sits somewhere between a grain delay and a texture synth (clouds), but with the unmistakeable touch of Stephen and Kris who continuously manage to turn noise and distortion into an art. Melotus is a free download for all ‘versio’ owners, regardless of the faceplate. It’s also available as a dedicated module. As usual, this is not a demo or walkthrough, I wanted to focus on what the module can do in a patch. As far as I can tell, Melotus does not have a true ‘dry’ sound, it’s always granulated so if you don’t like that, try patching it in parallel with a mult or use a send/return mixer.
Note: sound volume is a bit low on this one. Sorry for that.
UPDATE: I figured out the granulated sound occurs when the volume of your input source is very low. When you boost it up, the problem disappears. This issue is fixed in the latest v1928 firmware.
