Turnado by Sugar Bytes Review

Turnado is a versatile effect plugin, released initially for live performance and fits into any sound design job in your studio time. Overall the incorporated highly favorable effects joined with the control on the multi-effects makes Turnado an excellent plugin for your studio work. Sugar Bytes did send a review copy with no strings attached.

Turnado is your swiss army knife including 24 effects in one single plugin, in the interface you can load up to 8 effects at the time. If you need 12 effects than you can add a second instance of Turnado. To get started you apply the different effects until you get the sound you want.

Sugar Bytes included a huge list of presets, for the plugin at the Turnado level and many for every single effect. This is always helpful to discover new sound opportunities.

When comping a list of injected effect plugins, you can turn in the effect and further define all details on each single effect settings page. Through automation in your DAW, you can control and change the impact over time.

User interface & Usability

You can easily apply effects by dragging them from the right menu into position, select a preset, fine-tune the outcome in the settings page and dial in effect with the knob for every effect. There is the so-called Dictator (only a German can come up with such a name) which controls all eight effects at once. Turnado has an excellent and intuitive GUI. Looks a bit dated as the zeitgeist style is always changing, it is a modern classic. The UI helps extensive editing possibilities.

Rating:  Five out of five stars

Turnado forms fantastical musical results and has a place in my sound design toolbox. With Turnado you get 24 effects at once, and they can be easily applied and controlled if needed through automation in your DAW. Just playing with Turnado generates inspiring sounds. Turnado shines in real-time manipulation, most of us are in the studio not performing live, and that is the place where Turnado is at its best in your DAW helping to manipulate the sound.
